If someone glances through the career accolades list for junior pole vault specialist Maggie Krause, they quickly realize she embodies the true spirit of an NCAA Division III scholar-athlete.

In a breakout sophomore season, the Chagrin Falls native garnered All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region honors in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She also qualified for the indoor and outdoor national championships for the first time in her career.

If that was not enough, Krause then capped the eye-opening campaign with her first career All-American honor, finishing eighth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.

Not only did the sophomore land on the national championship podium, but she also helped teammate Maddy Reed capture the event title. After Reed missed her opening two vaults, Krause realized that the junior had started her approach from the wrong distance. Reed altered her approach and went on to win the event, thanks in large part to Krause’s assistance.

“Athletically, she has improved significantly since coming to ONU, which reflects her drive and commitment to success,” head coach Jason Maus stated. “Maggie performed exceptionally well at the outdoor national meet – it was an incredible experience for her and our program.”

Due to her efforts last season, the Polar Bears would claim the OAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship team title while taking runner-up honors during the indoor campaign.

Showcasing her success in the classroom, the second-generation ONU student registered Academic All-OAC honors and United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors in 2018. Her academic leadership also guided the Ohio Northern women’s track and field program to a 3.23 cumulative grade point average and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team kudos.

Off the track, the junior biology major has been honored on the Dean’s List and currently serves with the Ohio Northern Colleges Against Cancer chapter.

“Maggie is an extremely dedicated student-athlete,” Maus noted. “She works hard both academically and athletically – a very well-rounded individual - and serves as an excellent representative for our team and university.”

Even after just two and a half years in Ada, the junior pole vault specialist shows she is indeed the definition of an Ohio Athletic Conference scholar-athlete.
