 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship
Ada, Ohio- Nine track and field athletes represented the OAC (Ohio Athletic Conference) and earned All-America honors by placing in the top eight at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sports Center, March 14-15.
Ohio Northern junior Jimmy O'Brien (Pemberville/Eastwood) finished third, earning All-America honors for the third time in his career, in the 800-meter dash. O'Brien finished in 1:52.84, his second-fastest time of the season. ONU senior Ryan Robertson (Pickerington/Central) earned All-America honors with a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.12m
Heidelberg senior Greg Tyson Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) earned his third-consecutive All-American honor in the long jump with a second place finish with a mark of 7.26m.
Wilmington junior Marque Jones (Wilmington) jumped his way to All-America status for the third time with a seventh place finish in the long jump (6.98m).
Mount Union senior Dan Gund (Madison) finished fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of (16.68m) to earn All-America honors for the second time.
Otterbein juniors Lauren Rausch (Edison/Mt. Gilead) and Allyson Tobin (Lancaster/Fisher Catholic) each earned All-America honors. Rausch finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds. Tobin finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-9 ¾.
Heidelberg sophomore Judy Batialle (Felecity / Felicity-Franklin) closed out her stellar season with a National Championship in the 55-meter dash. She crossed the finish line in 7.00, which is the best time in Division III for the entire indoor season, as well as set a new field house record and topped her own school record. Bataille is just the second national champion in the history of women’s track and field at Heidelberg, but is the first on the indoor track. Bataille also earned All-American recognition for her efforts.
Capital junior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow) finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 11.75 inches, to earn All-American honors. Stanton is the first female and eighth athlete in school history to earn All-American honors.
