Mount Union Captures First OAC Softball Tournament Title With Win Over Muskingum

New Concord, OH-Mount Union College's softball team (36-8) captured their first Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Crown with a 4-0 win over #1 seed Muskingum (36-9) on Sunday, May 4 in New Concord, Ohio.
After a defensive struggle early, Mount Union's freshman shortstop Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) got things going with a lead off double in the fifth inning. Then freshamn designated hitter Gabby Koprivec (Canton/Canton South) singled her home to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Mount Union added two more runs in the sixth highlighted by another Lucak double that scored both runs. The Raiders added one more in the seventh to seal the win.
Pitcher Devon Butler (Loudonville) got the start and went 3.1 innings allowing just two hits while senior Lindsey Royer (Louisville/Marlington) came in to finish off the Muskies to earn her 26th win of the season. Royer pitched 3.2 innings with no hits, one walk and two strikeouts to lead the Raiders.
Mount Union also had three Lady Raiders earn OAC All-Tournament honors including Royer, third baseman Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) and center fielder Meghan Allen (Hartville/Lake).
The Raiders now await for a bid from the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee to compete in the Div. III NCAA National Softball Tournament. The selections are expected to be announced Monday morning, May 5. |
