Capital senior guard Kristen Richardson (Oxford/Talawanda) led the Crusaders to a 2-0 record this past week with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals at Wilmington. Richardson then went on to tally 25 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists in a win over Mount Union where the Crusaders clinched the OAC Regular-Season title.

Mount Union freshman guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake) led the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 record last week. LaMattina scored an impressive 27 points in a win over Baldwin-Wallace and then came back with 18 points in a victory over Otterbein. On the week, LaMattina averaged 22.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals-per-game. LaMattina shot an impressive eight-of-nine (.889) from the free-throw line and seven-of-10 from three-point range.

Capital senior forward Caitlin Elsass (Oxford/Talawanda) tallied a pair of double-digit scoring efforts to help lift the Crusaders into first place in the OAC. Elsass started the week with 17 points in just 18 minutes of play against Marietta, while adding three rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist. Elsass followed with 24 points, two rebounds and two steals in a win over the Baldwin-Wallace.

Wilmington senior post Kortney Kin (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) led the Quakers to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 25 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks-per-game as they topped Muskingum and No. 22 Mount Union. Kin shot 16-of-26 (61%) from the field and 16-of-21 (76%) from the field.

Baldwin-Wallace senior center Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy) had a team-best 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in the Yellow Jacket’s 59-58 win over Wilmington last week. Brough shot seven-of-12 (58.3%) from the field and a perfect four-of-four from the free-throw line.

Wilmington senior post Kortney Kin (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) averaged 23 points and 8.5 rebounds-per-game last week. Kin’s 23-point performance in a win over Marietta moved her into eighth place on the Wilmington all-time scoring list with 1,342 points. Kin also contributed 2.5 assists, one steal and 1.5 blocks-per-game.

Baldwin-Wallace junior guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 record last week, Including a game-high 22 points in a win over 15th ranked and previously undefeated Mount Union. On the week, Schroeder averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds-per-game and tallied nine assists, two steals and one block.

John Carroll junior guard/forward Lee Jennings (Stow) tallied her first career triple-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a victory over Marietta on December 31. Jennings also added had 18 points in a win over St. Vincent on December 21, snapping the Bearcats five-game win streak. In the Blue Steaks last two games, Jennings averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, nine assist, one steal and two blocks-per-game.

Capital freshman forward Stacy Timmerman (New Breman) tallied a season-high 24 points by going an impressive nine-of-11 (.818) from the field and a perfect six-of-six from the free-throw line to help the Crusaders to a 74-56 victory over Muskingum last week. Timmerman also added six rebounds and one steal.

Capital senior guard Lindsay Smithberger (Pickerington/Pickerington North) led the Crusaders to a 2-0 record last week as they picked up wins over Ohio Northern and Baldwin-Wallace. Smithberger hit two free-throws with 16 seconds left in overtime to give Capital the lead over B-W. On the week, Smithberger averaged 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals-per-game. She shot .529 (nine-of-17) from field –goal range, .800 (four-of-five) from the free-throw line and .500 (two-of-four) from three-point range.

Mount Union senior guard Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Valley) led the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Marietta (87-69) and Wilmington (77-58), to remain undefeated with a 6-0 record. Pohovey averaged 17 points and six rebounds-per-game. On the week, she shot an impressive six-of-six from three-point range and added two assists and three steals.

Muskingum sophomore guard Suzanne Nichols (Marysville) led the Muskies to a 3-0 record and the Ursuline College Tournament title last week with 15.7 points and 3.7 rebounds-per-game. Nichols shot an impressive 15-of-19 (.789) from the free-throw line. She also added eight assists and four steals on the week. Nichols was name the tournament MVP for her efforts.

Ohio Northern junior forward Jeanne Bockey (Delphos/St. John) led the Polar Bears past Transylvania, 65-62, with 22 points and seven rebounds. Bockey also led ONU against Hanover with 16 points and five rebounds. On the week, she added six assist, one block and shot .682 (15-of-22) from the field and was a perfect eight-of-eight from the three-point range.

Mount Union senior forward Stephanie Schwartz (Farmdale/Maplewood) led the Purple Raiders past Fredonia (NY) and Allegheny (PA) to earn MVP honors at the National City Tip-Off Tournament. On the weekend she added 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds-per-game. Schwartz was an incredible 11-of-13 (.846) from field-goal range.

Wilmington junior post Kortney Kin (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) set a new team scoring record with 45 points in the Quaker’s 82-74 win over Wittenberg in the championship game of the Fred Raizk Tournament last weekend. On the weekend Kin scored 68 points and was 61% (27-of-44) from the field and 81% (13-of-16) from the free-throw line. She also added 16 rebounds, four assists and three steals. She was named the tournament MVP.

Mount Union forward Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted) hit seven three-pointers and scored 27 of her game-high 31 points in the second half to lead the Purple Raiders to an 81-69 win over Muskingum last week. She was an impressive nine-of-13 (.692) from the field, seven-of-eight (.875) in three-point field goals and a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line. Wiedt also added one rebound, two assists and three steals.

Muskingum senior post Jessica McKenzie (Hopewell/West Muskingum) averaged a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds-per-game en route to leading the Muskies to a 2-0 record in OAC play last week. Against John Carroll she averaged a career-high 19 rebounds. McKenzie was 17-of-26 (.654) from field-goal range and was nine-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also added seven assists, six steals and one block on the week.

Muskingum senior post Jessica McKenzie (Hopewell/West Muskingum) averaged 24.5 points and 18 rebounds-per-game last week. She scored a career-high 37 points and grabbed 22 rebounds against Manhatanville College. Her 37 points tied the school record for points in a game. On the week she tallied 49 points, 36 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks.
