Men's Outdoor Track and Field:  NCAA Championships

Thirteen Earn All-American Honors at

 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships

 

       Oshkosh, WI.-Six men and seven women earned All-American honors at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, May 22-24. The top eight in each event earn All-American recognition.

   Mount Union senior Dan Gund (Madison) won the national title in the shot put with a throw of 57-2 ¾ on Saturday. Raider sophomore Judd Lutz (Bloomville/Columbian) also earned All-American status in the shot put with a third place finish (54-2 ½ ), along with senior Matt Dawson (Painesville/Riverside) in eight place (52-11). Lutz placed fourth in the discus throw (167-9), as well as Mount Union seniors Jaime Simpson (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) with a sixth place finish (163-4), followed by Pat Nicholson (Brookpark/Holy Name) in seventh place (162-10).

       Ohio Northern junior Jimmy O’Brien (Pemberville/Eastwood) earned fourth place finishes in both the 800-meter (1:52.09) and 1,500-meter (3:48.45) runs.

       On the women’s side, Capital sophomore Jessica Starks (Akron/Akron East) earned All-American honors in three separate events. Starks set a new school record and finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.11, she placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.04 and then combined with fellow sophomore Brittney Carter (Columbus/Westerville South) and juniors Tana Myers (Ashland/Mapleton) and Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow) to place eighth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.62. Stanton also eared All-American status with a seventh place finish in the long jump (17-11 ¾).

      Mount Union freshman Annie Patton (Darlington, PA/Blackhawk) became an All-American by placing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 140-10.    

      Otterbein junior Allyson Tobin ( Lancaster /Fisher Catholic High School) took home an eight place finish in the shot put with a mark of 44-8 ¼.

     Rounding out the All-American honors for the women was Wilmington sophomore Callen Martin (Cincinnati/Finneytown), who finished eighth in the 100-meter dash (12.11).
