Mount Union Men and Otterbein Women
Win 2008 OAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship

Austintown, Ohio-The Mount Union men repeated as the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Track and Field Champions to capture its fourth consecutive and 27th overall title, while the Otterbein women claimed its second consecutive and sixth overall title since 2004. The two day event was hosted by Wilmington College, Friday-Saturday, April 25-26.
The Purple Raiders finished with 183 points to top runner-up Ohio Northern by 20.5 points. Heidelberg was third with 107 points, and was followed by Baldwin-Wallace (82), Wilmington (76.50), Marietta (44), John Carroll (38), Muskingum (32), Capital (32) and Otterbein (22).
One of the meet’s highlights was provided by Mount Union senior Dan Gund (Madison), who shattered the OAC shot put record with a toss of 17.89m. Gund, who also won the discus (47.80m), was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete.
Ohio Northern's junior Jimmy O'Brien (Pemberville/Eastwood) powered to wins in 800-meter (1:54.10), the 1,500- meter (3:56.45) and was part of the winning 4x800-meter relay team. For his efforts he was named the Most Outstanding Distance Runner.
ONU senior Ryan Robertson (Pickerington/Central) won the 100-meter dash (10.93) and 200-meter dash (22.15) titles, in addition to his long jump title to earn the Most Outstanding Sprinter award. Mount Union's coaches received Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
On the women’s side, the Cardinals finished with 175 points and were followed by Baldwin-Wallace (162.50), Ohio Northern (79.5), Capital (77) and Marietta (65). Wilmington finished sixth with 55.5 points, and was followed in the final team standings by Heidelberg (51), Mount Union (48.5), John Carroll (41) and Muskingum (25).
Otterbein freshman Emily Bonnette (Marietta/Warren) placed second in the long jump (5.46) and claimed the triple jump title (11.42m), to be named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Athlete.
Wilmington sophomore Callen Martin (Cincinnati/Finneytown) and Capital sophomore Jessica Starks (Akron/Akron East) were named Co-Most Outstanding Sprinters. Martin won the 100-meter dash (12.38) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.81). Starks won the 200-meter dash (26.11) and was second in the 100-meter dash (12.17).
Baldwin-Wallace junior Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) posted wins at 1,500 (4:45.72) and 5,000 (18:21.56) meter run to earn Most Outstanding Distance Runner honors.
The Otterbein coaches were named Most Outstanding Coaching Staff.
