Men's Tennis:  Players-of-the-Week

May 3

Ohio Northern freshman Joey Frank (Gahanna/Columbus Academy) went 3-0 at the #1 singles and doubles positions to help the Polar Bears to a 3-0 record on the week with wins over Wilmington, Muskingum and Mount Union. ONU claim the regular-season title with a perfect 9-0 OAC mark.

Other Nominees: Miles Yetter (HEID)…Alex Trzeciak (B-W).

April 26

Mount Union senior Brian Widdoes (Reynoldsburg) went 3-0 at the third singles and third doubles positions with wins over John Carroll, Capital and Marietta to break the school-record for singles wins in a career with 71. His total of six wins on the week broke the school-record for total wins in a career with 119.

April 19

Ohio Northern freshman Joey Frank (Columbus/Columbus Academy) went a combined 6-0 last weeks to help the Polar Bears to a 3-0 record with wins over Baldwin-Wallace, Wittenberg and Heidelberg at the first/second singles and first doubles positions.

April 12

Mount Union junior Zach Perry (Hudson) led the Purple Raiders last week with a 2-0 record at first doubles/second singles. In singles play, Perry earned wins over Allegheny (7-5, 7-5) and Muskingum (6-1, 6-3).

April 5

Muskingum junior Adrian Matthews (Bluffton) led the Muskies last week with a combined 5-1 record at first doubles/second singles. In singles play, Matthews earned wins over Fransican (8-0), Otterbein (8-6) and Heidelberg (8-3). In doubles competitions, he defeated Franciscan (6-0, 6-1) and Otterbein (6-4, 6-3) and fell to Heidelberg (6-4, 6-2).

Mount Union senior Travis Papay (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) was 2-0 at the fourth singles position, including a win over Heidelberg and the only win for the Purple Raiders against regionally ranked and undefeated Dension. Papay also went 1-1 at the second doubles position.

March 22

Heidelberg junior Dylan Booth (Westerville/Central) was the deciding point in a 5-4 win over Adrian last week. Booth won in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 7-5) at the fourth singles positions and won 8-4 at the third doubles position.

March 16

Baldwin-Wallace freshman Joe Horvath (North Royalton) posted a 5-1 record at the four singles/three doubles position on the Yellow Jacket’s spring trip. He carries an 11-1 overall singles record and a 10-1 overall doubles record.

Capital senior Max Hoff (Upper Arlington) posted a 3-1 record at number one singles and doubles with wins over Marywood, Alma, Notre Dame. His only loss was to PR-Mayaguez

Ohio Northern freshman Nick Kowalczyk (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) went 3-0 at #2 singles and #1 doubles with wins over Tiffin, Wilmington and Marietta  to lead the team to a 3-0 record last week and a second place regular-season finish.

Ohio Northern senior Ryan Paul (West Milton/Milton-Union) went 2-0 at #1 singles and #1 doubles with 9-0 wins over Heidelberg and Otterbein to lead the Polar Bears to a 2-0 record last week.

Mount Union junior Brian Mogus (Canton/South) went 2-0 at #2 singles and #2 doubles last week to help lead the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 record with wins over Tiffin and Baldwin-Wallace.

Heidelberg sophomore Dylan Booth (Westerville/Westerville Central) posted a 2-0 record at number four singles and number three doubles last week to help lead the Berg  to a 2-0 record with wins Bluffton and Marietta.

Baldwin-Wallace sophomore number five singles player Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) posted a 12-1 record, including an 11-0 mark in dual matches, during B-W's annual Spring Break trip (SC) to lead the team to a 10-1 record. His only loss was to the seventh-ranked team in the Division II Central Region West Liberty (W.Va.).

March 17

Baldwin-Wallace senior number one singles player James Daly (Akron/Firestone) posted a 4-0 singles record and a 4-0 doubles record last week during B-W's annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  Daly, who is ranked 17th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the Central Region won all four of his singles matches last week in straight sets. For the season, Daly is 16-3 overall at No. 1 singles and is 13-3 overall at No. 1 doubles.

March 24

Ohio Northern senior number one singles player Micah Scott (Reynoldsburg) posted a 2-0 record last week with wins over John Carroll and Marietta.  Scott was also a part of the number one doubles team that also went 2-0 on the week. On the season he is 6-4 in singles and 9-2 in doubles.

March 31

Wilmington sophomore number one singles/doubles player Joe Freudenberg (Mason/Kings) raised his record at number one singles to 6-0 last week with wins over Marietta and Mount Union. He also notched a win at number one doubles over Marietta.  Freudenberg is now 2-0 in OAC singles play and on the doubles court is 3-3 on the season.

April 7

Men: Ohio Northern senior number two singles/ one doubles player Bart Schenck (Wooster) went 3-0 in single and doubles with wins over Wilmington, Marietta and Bluffton last week. On the season, Schenck is 26-8 overall.

April 14

Men: Baldwin-Wallace senior number one singles/ one doubles player James Daly (Akron/Firestone) went 3-0 in single and doubles with wins over Capital, Allegheny and Marietta last week. Daly, the winningest player in school history, won his 99th career match with a 6-0 and 6-0 victory versus the Pioneers. He is also the winningest player in school history in doubles matches as he captured his 86th triumph last week.

April 21

John Carroll junior number one singles/ one doubles player James Steward (Monroe,MI) went 3-0 in single and in doubles with wins over Otterbein, Heidelberg and Muskingum last week to secure the number four seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament. He also won his three doubles matches with three different partners.
