2007 OAC Men’s Soccer Tournament
October 29-November 3, 2007
Austintown, Ohio- The 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament will feature the top six teams in the Conference with the quarterfinals beginning on Monday, October 29 and running through Saturday, November 3.
Capital finished the regular season at 7-1-1 to claim the number one seed and earn a bye in the quarterfinals. The Crusaders will take on the winner of the Baldwin-Wallace, the number five seed at Ohio Northern, the number four seed on Wednesday, October 31 at 2p.m. Capital is making its fourth appearance in the tournament with a 0-3 record.
The Crusaders have been led by sophomore forward Steven McCarthy (Centerville/Kettering Alter) with 12 goals and three assists, along with junior Joey Snyder (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) with 12 goals.
Heidelberg claimed the number two seed with a 6-3 OAC record and also earned a bye in the quarterfinals. Heidelberg is making its 10th appearance in the tournament with a 2-8-1 record. The Berg will take on the winner of the number six seed, Marietta at the number three seed, John Carroll at 2p.m.
The team will be led by sophomore goal keeper Jared Kealy (Dublin/Jerome) with 82 saves in 16 games and a .796 save percentage, along with freshman defenseman Mike Harling (Rochdale, England) with five goals.
John Carroll, the number three seed with a 6-3 OAC record, will be making its 15th stop in the tournament with a 13-10-1 record. Leading the way has been senior forward Alex Bernot (Mentor) with 10 goals and 12 assits, along with junior forward Scott McKinney (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) with eight goals and three assists.
Ohio Northern finished the season at 5-2-2 to enter this year’s tournament at the number four seed. ONU is making its eighth tournament stop with a 3-6 record. Leading the way for the Polar Bears has been sophomore forward Dan Otanicar (Wadsworth) with nine goals and 11 assists and junior midfielder Adam Ross (Cincinnati/Hills Christian Academy) with eight goals and five assist.
Baldwin-Wallace claimed the fifth seed standing at 4-2-3 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets are making their third overall trip to the tournament with a 0-2 record.
Leading the Yellow Jackets has been Bryan Sugerman (Akron/Richfield Revere) with nine goals and four assists, along with Tyler Leister (Stow/Munroe-Falls) with eight goals and two assists.
Marietta earned the sixth and last seed in the tournament with 4-4-1 OAC record to make its second overall stop in the tournament with a 0-1 record. Leading the Pioneers this season has been sophomore forward Kyle Muth (Twinsburg) with six goals and four assists, and junior goal keeper Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, FL) with 5.5 saves-per-game and a .846 save percentage.
