Mount Union Wins 2008 OAC Men’s Golf Championship

April 25-26

2008 OAC Men's Golf Champs      Austintown, OH--Mount Union finished first overall (620 strokes) out of nine teams competing at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's Golf Championships hosted by Ohio Northern at the Colonial Golfers Club in Harrod Ohio, April 25-26. This is the third OAC Championship that the Purple Raiders have won and the second consecutive. Mount Union defeated runner-up Otterbein by 11 strokes (620-631).

      As OAC Champions, the Purple Raiders have automatically qualified for the NCAA Divison III Men's Golf Championships hosted by Emory University and the Gwinnett Sports Commission, in Braselton, Georgia on May 13-16.

        Heidelberg sophomore Zack Koinis (Vermilion)became the first Student Prince to medal at the OAC Championship. Koinis shot a 151 (75-76), to slipped by Mount Union senior Jason Nussbaum (Apple Creek/Waynedale) by one stroke and earn the Brian Unk Tournament medalist title. Nussbaum shot a 152 (76-76) to place second.

      Also leading the Raiders was senior Nate Mullen (Salem), who shot a 154 (74-80), to place him in fifth place overall and earn All-OAC honors for the second straight year. Also earning All-OAC honors was freshman Lucas Murray (Canton/Canton South), who shot a 156 (79-77), placing him in a tie for eighth place. 

     The top 10 finishers earn All-OAC honors.

2008 OAC Coach-of-the-Year

    Mount Union Head Coach, Dan MacDuffie, has been named 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Coach-of-the-Year. In just his fourth year at the helm, MacDuffie guided the Purple Raiders to their second consecutive OAC Championship in 2008.  Overall, MacDuffie's squads have never finished lower than third place at the Conference Championships.
