In 2009 Otterbein won its 13th overall OAC crown, the first since 2006, and earned the NCAA automatic qualifier. The Cardinals finished with a two-day team total of 639, 13 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Mount Union (652). John Carroll and Muskingum tied for third with scores of 655 and Baldwin-Wallace finished in fifth place (667) to round out the top-five. Otterbein will return only one All-OAC performer, junior Alex Stansell (Fairfield), who tied ninth with a score of 162 (83-79). Heidelberg will return last year's medalist, senior Zack Koinis (Vermillion), who fired rounds of 74 and 76 to finish the tournament with a score of 150. John Carroll, who claimed its second consecutive OAC Regular-Season Trophy, will look to seniors AJ Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) and Blake Furgerson (Concord/St. Edward). Spalding finished in sixth place a year ago (86, 73-159), followed by Furgerson in seventh place (83, 77-160). Furgerson was among five individual selected to complete at the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The top-10 individuals will earn All-OAC honors. |
