Men's Golf: Regular-Season Trophy/OAC ChampionshipsThursday May 21, 2009 Otterbein Men’s Golf Claims OAC Tournament Crown Mount Union’s Lucas and John Carroll’s Furgerson selected to compete at the NCAA Championships
Austintown, OH-The Otterbein men’s golf team will make their first trip to the NCAA Championships in three years after winning the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament, held Thursday and Friday at New Albany Country Club. The Cardinals earned the NCAA automatic qualifier spot by finishing with a two-day team total of 639, 13 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Mount Union (652). The NCAA Championships will be held May 13-16 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Mount Union sophomore Lucas Murray (Canton/Canton South) and John Carroll junior Blake Furgerson (Concord/St. Edward) have been selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. They are among five individual players joining 36 teams tha tmake up the 185 participants in the tournament. Overall, 44 golfers from nine OAC schools participated in the OAC Tournament, with Heidelberg junior Zack Koinis (Vermillion) earning medalist honors for the second year in a row with a two-day total of 150 (74-76).
