Baseball:  Players-of-the-Week

May 10

Hitter: Heidelberg junior third baseman Willie Brechun (Canton/Canton Central Catholic) helped the Berg to a 4-0 record on the week and the OAC Regular-Season title. Brechun batted .650 (13-of-20), with five runs, two doubles and 13 RBI. Brechun has set a new OAC single-season record with 24 doubles.

Pitcher: Muskingum junior Jared Patterson (Coshocton) held hitters to a .226 average last week en route to posting a 2-0 record and helping the Muskies to an appearance in the OAC Tournament. In 12 innings, Patterson gave up three earned runs, struck out 11 and walked four.

May 3

Hitter: Muskingum junior outfielder Erik Spitzer (Hebron/Lakewood) led the Muskies last week, batting an impressive .700 (seven-of-10) with three runs, five RBI, three doubles and a perfect 1.000 slugging percent.

Pitcher: Heidelberg freshman Ethan Holt (Galion/West Holmes) threw a complete game against John Carroll, giving up only five hits, one run and striking out eight without walking a batter. The Berg finished the week with a 4-0 record to move in first place in the OAC.

April 26

Muskingum senior catcher Brock Whiteman (Altoona, Pa.) set the school-record for career hits (207), after hitting his eighth home run of the season against Ohio Northern. On the week, Whiteman batted .529 (nine-of-17), with 10 runs, seven RBI, two doubles and three home runs. He also had a 1.176 slugging and .636 on-base percentage.

Baldwin-Wallace freshman Pat Havens (Twinsburg) picked up his first career victory and complete-game in a 9-1 win versus Oberlin. In nine innings of work, Havens allowed one earned run on eight hits and struck out six without walking a batter.

April 19

Hitter: Marietta  junior centerfielder John Snyder (Altoona, Pa.) batted .563 (nine-for-16) with four doubles, five runs scored and eight RBI to helped the Pioneers to a 4-1 record last week.  Synder extended his hitting streak to 24 games and has now reached base in the 29 straight games. His hitting streak ties him for fourth all-time on Marietta's list for consecutive games with a hit.

Pitcher: John Carroll senior Chris Koller (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph Collegiate Institute) made two appearances in relief against Muskingum and Capital and won both to help the Blue Streaks to a 4-0 record. In 6.2 innings of work Koller struck out six, gave up only four hits with no earned runs or walks.

April 12

 

Hitter: John Carroll senior outfielder Bryan Robinett (Loveland/Cincinnati Moeller) helped the Blue Streaks to a 3-1 record last week. In three games, Robinett batted .727 (eight-of-11) with four runs, seven RBI, two doubles and three homeruns. For the week, Robinett had a 1.727 slugging percent.

Hitter: Marietta  senior catcher/DH Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton) tied a school record and the OAC single-game record with 10 RBI  in a win over Ohio Northern last week. Beatty hit a pair of three-run home runs, a two run double, and a sacrifice fly to go along with a RBI ground out. On the week, Beatty batted .412 (seven-of-17) with for runs, 15 RBI, two doubles, and three home runs.

Pitcher: Wilmington sophomore Jared Ramsey (Fairborn) fired a complete-game with only one hit, as the Quakers upset No. 3 Heidelberg, 11-0. Ramsey struck out five and walked only two in seven innings of work.

April 5

Hitter: Heidelberg outfielder/first baseman Ricardo Lizcano (Toledo/Roy C. Start) help the Berg to a 4-1 record last week with multiple hits in all five games and extend his hitting streak to 17 games. On the week, Lizcano was 15-of-20 (.750) with 15 runs, 15 RBI, five doubles and two homeruns.

Michael Eden

Pitcher: John Carroll junior Michael Eden (Aurora) struck out all three batters faced in the ninth inning of an 11-7 victory over Notre Dame College on Tuesday and then worked four innings of relief to earn the 4-3 win over Otterbein on Saturday. In five innings of work, Eden gave up only one hit, one earned run (1.80 ERA), walked two and struck out 10.

March 29

Pacyga 2010

Hitter: John Carroll freshman first baseman/DH Ryan Pacyga (Forrest Park, IL/Nazareth Academy) lead the Blue Streaks past Muskingum,13-2, with two home runs, including a grand slam. Pacyga became the first JCU player since 2008 to hit two home runs in the same game. On the week, he batted .417 (five-of-12) with five runs, seven RBI, one double, two home runs and carried a .917 slugging percent.

Pitcher: Ohio Northern freshman Austin Price (Tiffin/Columbian) had a career-high 10 strikeouts in five innings in a win over OSU-Lima. Price walked one batter and gave up only two hits.

March 22

Hitter: Marietta  junior center fielder John Snyder (Altoona, Pa.)  was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and 5 RBI against Dubuque on Friday , and then added three hits in a win over #19 Rose-Hulman on Saturday. Snyder was also a perfect 1.000 with 10 opportunities in the field last week.

Pitcher: Heidelberg junior Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind.) picked up a win over Ohio Wesleyan and recorded three saves versus Bluffton and nationally ranked Adrian, to help lead the Berg to an impressive 5-0 record last week.  In 9.2 innings of work, Lowe struck out 11 and did not give up a walk or a run.

March 16

Greg Ferrell

Hitter: Mount Union junior center fielder Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) was 14-of-24 (.583) with nine hits for extra bases and a 1.208 slugging percent. He tallied six doubles, three homeruns and 18 RBI. Ferrell also did not commit an error in the field with 24 putouts and an outfield assist.

Kyle Lindquist

Pitcher: Marietta sophomore Kyle Lindquist (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) tallied 12.1 innings of work with no earned runs, seven hits, 11 strikeouts and three walks during the Pioneer’s spring trip. Lindquist threw five scoreless innings of relief, allowing just hit against Rhodes, and then allowed one unearned run on three hits, while striking out in six innings against McMurray

March 9

Rader10

Hitter: Ohio Northern senior left fielder Matt Rader (Findlay/Cory-Rauson) had at least two hits in each of ONU’s spring break games and led the Polar Bears to a 4-0 record. Rader hit .529 (nine-of-17) with a .591 on-base percent and a .824 slugging percent. Rader tallied one double, three triples and six RBI.

April 27

Hitter: John Carroll junior first baseman Tom Hickey (Orland Park, IL/Brother Rice) batted .571 (8-of-14) with six runs,  five doubles and nine runs batted-in to lead the Blue Streaks to a 3-0 record last week.

Pitcher: Mount Union junior Mark Sabatino (Mayfield Hts./Mayfield) threw a complete game  with five-hits in a 9-5 victory over Baldwin-Wallace  to help lead the Purple Raiders to a 3-3 record last week.  In six innings of work, Sabatino gave up no earned runs, struck out ten and walked two.

Pitcher: John Carroll senior Paul O’Donnell (Mantua/Walsh Jesuit) threw a complete game six-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Muskingum to help lead the Blue Steaks to a 3-1 record last week.  In ten innings of work, O’Donnell struck out five and walked one.

April 6

Hitter: Marietta senior third baseman Cameron Cimino (Boardman) batted .480 (12-of-25) with four home runs and 13 runs batted-in. Cimino hit a pair of home runs  in a doubleheader sweep over Capital  and then hit two more in the Pioneers’ win over Franklin last week.

Hitter: Heidelberg senior first baseman Biagio Boytim (Brunswick) led the Berg to a 2-0 record last week, batting .889 (eight-of-nine) with seven RBI, one double and one triple. Boytim was also perfect in the outfield with 18 putouts and one assist.

Hitter: Mount Union senior first baseman Cory Slaybaugh (Hartville/Lake) helped to lead the Purple Raiders to 2-1 record last week with a grand slam against Wilmington to tie the game that Mount Union would go on to win in extra innings. On the week, Slaybaugh batted .615 (eight-of-13) with four runs, two home runs, eight RBI and one stolen base.

Hitter: Muskingum junior catcher Brock Whiteman (New Concord/John Glenn) has led the Muskies to an 8-4 record. In 12 games, Whiteman has hit .444 (20-for-45) with a .561 on-base percent and a .711 slugging percent. Whiteman has tallied two home runs, four doubles, one triple and 19 RBI.

Pitcher: Heidelberg senior pitcher David Paddock (Westerville/North) has gone 3-0 to help lead the Berg to a 10-2 record. In 24 innings, Paddock gave up only one earned run for a .38 ERA, walked two and struck out 21, including a career-best 11 batters in his first appearance on the year.

March 17

Hitter: Wilmington senior center fielder Jason Iles (Fayetteville) led the Quakers to a 5-3 record at the Gene Cusic Classic in Florida. He hit .545 (18-for-33) with three home runs, 12 RBIs, six doubles and two triples. Iles scored 16 runs and stole seven bases in eight times. He finished the week with a 1.121 slugging percentage.

Pitcher: Muskingum freshman pitcher Tyler Nahs (Dubline/Jerome) went 2-0 on the week to help lead the Muskies to a 7-3 record last week.

Nahs struck out eight, giving up only two runs in ten innings for a .90 ERA.

March 24

Hitter: John Carroll junior center fielder Ryan Lewis (Cleveland/ Fontainebleau) led the Blue Streaks to a 2-0 record over Capital last week.  He had a walk-off two run home run to overcome a 5-1 deficit for a 7-6 victory in game one. Lewis accounted for six of the 12 runs scored. He batted .571 with four hits, one home run and two runs batted-in.  He was also a perfect the three-of –three in stolen bases.

He struck out three, giving up no runs and only walking one in seven innings.

Hitter: Heidelberg freshman short stop Jason Lash (Strongsville) led the Berg to a 4-0 record last week. Lash batted .667 (eight-of-12) with two runs, nine RBI, one double and one triple.  He finished the week with a .917 slugging percent and a .667 on-base percent.

Hitter: Heidelberg freshman short stop Jason Lash (Strongsville) led the Berg to a 4-1 record last week.  Lash hit .667 courtesy of 10 hits in 15 at bats. He also led the team with a .684 on base percentage. He tallied six RBI, six runs, one double and a .733 slugging percentage.

Hitter: John Carroll junior outfielder Ryan Lewis (Fontainebleau) led the Blue Streaks to a 2-0 record last week.  Lewis hit .875 (eight-of-13) with six runs, one double, one triple and two RBI. In a doubleheader sweep of Muskingum he failed to reach base just one time in nine plate appearances as lead-off hitter. Lewis was also a perfect 3-3 in stolen bases.

Pitcher: Baldwin-Wallace junior pitcher Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa.) went 1-0 on the week. He pitched a complete four-hit game against Otterbein. Jaskowak fired seven innings with no earned runs, one strike out and only two walks to help lead the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 record on the week.

 

 

 

Heidelberg freshman pitcher Jake Gossman (Westerville/South) finished the week with a 1-0 record. He pitched a complete game against Capital giving up only four hits, no earned runs, struck out seven and only walked three.

April 21

Hitter: Otterbein junior first baseman Brian Hiscox (Burton/Berkshire) led the Cardinals to a 6-1 record last week.  On the week, Hiscox batted .500 (28-of-14) with 12 runs, three doubles, five homeruns and 17 RBI. He had a career day against Wittenberg, hitting a career-high three home runs, while also recording a career-high nine RBI in a single game. Also in a doubleheader sweep of Marietta, he went five-for-nine at the plate, with one double, one home run, five runs scored, and six RBI.

Pitcher: Heidelberg freshman pitcher Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) pitched nine innings with only four hits, no earned runs, two walks and six strike outs. He pitched 7.2 innings of relief to pick up the win against Mount Union and helped move the Berg into first place on Saturday pitching relief against Baldwin-Wallace. The Berg finished the week with a 5-2 record.  

 Muskingum junior pitcher Levi Shaw (Jacksontown/Lakewood) posted a 0.75 ERA and earned a win after pitching a complete nine-inning game to go 1-0 on the week.  In 12 innings of work, Shaw gave up only 11 hits, four runs, one earned run, walked one and struck out seven.  Other Nominees: Dan Remenowsky, OTT…Drew Wieland,ONU…Tony Evanko, JCU

 

April 28

Hitter: Otterbein freshman catcher/designated hitter Charlie Cahill (West Jefferson) led the Cardinals to a 4-1 record last week.  On the week, Cahill batted .666 (four-of-six) with three runs, two homeruns and six RBI.

Pitcher: Heidelberg freshman pitcher Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) picked up a win and a save in two appearances on the week . Lowe gave up only four hits, no runs, walked four and struck out eight in 8.2 innings of work. He earned the win over nationally-ranked Wooster. He also threw five innings in relief against the Scots for a one-hit shut out to close the game.

Hitter: Baldwin-Wallace junior first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/Edgewood) led the Yellow Jackets last week batting .500 with 10 hits, four runs, five doubles, one home run and five runs batted in. His five doubles tied the school’s single-season record of 18. He also had a .950 slugging average and a .545 on-base percentage.
